Meet Our Staff

Below is our current 2012 Summer Staff.

If you are interested in a camp position please see the Join Our Team page.

Moose

He has never walked on the moon, slayed a dragon or won a Nobel Prize, but that doesn’t stop Moose from creating the best experience possible for campers. He is the Angel Island Day Camp director. He is also the creator and head professor of the Harry Potter Camp. Moose is passionate about recreation and summer camp. If you go over to Angel Island Camp you’ll probably see him leading a camp song or organizing a treasure hunt, that is when he’s not generally making sure camp is a fun, exciting and safe place for the campers. Moose has had years of summer camp experience (day and sleep-away). Off-season he is one of the Bel-Tib Recreation coordinators. He leads the middle school recreation programs, assists in the planning and running of special events, puts together the activity guides and much more. You can reach Moose by email or at the office.

Butterscotch

He’s the king of sports, the duke of fishing and the master of BBQs. Butterscotch comes alive when Angel Island Day Camp starts. You’ll find him at our San Francisco drop-off/pick-up site during the summer season. On the island he leads the sports activities, fishing and is the master of disguises on theme days. On Fridays he partners with Moose to put together an awesome BBQ lunch for the campers. During the rest of the year Butterscotch is one of the Bel-Tib Recreation coordinators. He supervises K-Club and Academy and leads after school sports programs at Bel Aire. You can reach Butterscotch by email or at the office.

Tiny

Campers love Tiny. And why wouldn’t they, she runs the camp games at Angel Island Day Camp and is the go-to-leader for our kayaking activity. Tiny has been in the recreation field for quite some time. She will be leading the Sharks group at Angel Island which includes the overnights and field trips. Tiny is looking forward to Angel Island Day Camp this year as much as Moose and Butterscotch are. When it’s not summer you’ll find Tiny leading the after school sports programs at K-Club and Academy on the Reed campus as well as working with the teens.

JuJu

You’d be hard pressed to find someone more passionate about art projects than JuJu. Combine art and gardening and she is in heaven. JuJu has been creating and running the Art and Garden Camps and programs for the past couple of years. She is very creative and it shows in her projects, which the kids “dig” by the way. During the school year JuJu runs after school Art and Gardening programs at The Landmarks Art and Garden Center as well as a variety of art only programs at Bel Aire.

Kiwi

Hooray! Kiwi is coming back this year to once again be the arts and crafts director and group counselor at Angel Island Day Camp! Kiwi is a ray of sunshine and the campers love her. She obviously enjoys arts and crafts, and can make any activity fun! She is studying to be an event planner and is getting her degree in communications and public relations. Kiwi loves laughing, camping, drawing, painting, walking her dog, and playing sports such as volleyball, soccer, and swimming! She can’t wait to return to camp!

Ladybug

We are thrilled to have Ladybug return to Angel Island Day Camp this year! Ladybug cannot wait for camp to start, to meet all the new campers and see all the returners! She always brings a smile and her infectious enthusiasm to camp! During the rest of the year she studies psychology at Cal Poly in sunny San Luis Obispo. She is very active and spontaneous and loves participating in any activity that will give her an adrenaline rush.

Critter

Critter is from Occidental in Sonoma County and went to camp every summer! She went to USF for her undergraduate degree in Spanish and also got her master’s degree in elementary education at USF. She did her student teaching in San Francisco in Kindergarten, first, and fifth grade. Critter spent one summer at the SFSPCA summer camp as a humane educator, where she taught Kindergarteners through 8th graders about animals care and treatment. She spent last summer at Campus Kids! For the past several years Critter has been working in after-school care, she did 4th grade last year in San Francisco and now she is working with kindergarten, first, and second graders in San Bruno.

Tweety

Tweety is new to the team this year. She will be co-leading Camp Miwok, preparing young campers for a summer full of wonderment! Tweety has the spirit to elicit a positive attitude in anyone. She has a crafty and innovative way of making sure every camper is having fun. Join her on a nature hunt, in science class, or an artist’s chair – there is so much in store at Camp Miwok. Tweety will ‘tweet’ you to a fanciful fun time all camp long. She works as a recreation specialist during the year at Belvedere Tiburon Recreation and can hardly keep her feet on the ground waiting for camp to start.

Chico

Chico is back and better than ever. He recently graduated from Chico State University with a degree in Recreation, Parks and Facilities Management. He will be at Angel Island Day Camp leading games and sports activities this summer, as well as helping out with the overnights. During the school year Chico can be found teaching K-Club and Academy classes at Reed School. His hobbies include surfing, fishing, and camping.

Emma

Emma loves animals almost as she loves working at camps. She has been a CIT at the Oakland Zoo Camp for 3 years. During the school year she’s either working hard in the drama department, directing and acting in shows, or teaching swim lessons at the Mill Valley Community Center. Next fall she’ll be at University of Colorado at Boulder studying liberal arts. This will be her first year at Angel Island Day Camp, and is determined to add even more fun into every camper’s day!

Smurf

Even though Smurf was only able to come to one week of camp last summer, she can’t wait to return to Angel Island Day Camp this year! She loves to read and do crafts, but can’t live without sports. Smurf can’t wait to meet all the campers and make sure its a summer they’ll never forget. When’s she’s not at camp having a stellar time, she’s studying and working hard towards her degrees in sociology and management at San Diego State University. Smurf loves camping, writing, singing and anything new and adventurous.
